LIMUN 2021
På trods af den verdensompændede pandemi, deltager ATU | Syd i marts 2021 for 7. gang i London International Model United Nation - Europas største Model United Nations konference med delegerede fra hele verden.
I år foregår konferencen virtuelt, og ATU | Syd og ATU | Midt ønsker selvfølgelig igen i år at sende en stærk delegation, som vi har gjort de foregående år.
ATU | Syd forestår tilmeldingen, så I skal tilmelde jer på siden senest den 8. februar, og så laver vi en samlet tilmelding. Deltagelse er forbundet med et konferencegebyr, som ATU | Syd dækker, men det betyder selvfølgelig, at tilmelding forpligter, og at vi forventer, at I deltager aktivt i alle online sessioner, så ATU-delegationen bevarer sit gode ry i LIMUN-sammenhænge.
Til LIMUN mødes unge mennesker fra hele verden mødes for at diskutere nogle af verdens udfordringer og komme med løsningsforslag. Det er en weekend fuld af politiske forhandlinger og fantastiske oplevelser med mennesker fra hele verden.
London International Model United Nations
London International Model United Nations is the largest annual university level MUN conference in Europe. The conference runs over a weekend and the programme is filled with international political dilemmas and delegates from around the world.
LIMUN is a simulation of the different United Nations organs and other forums of international relations and asks young people to take on the role of world leaders. It aims to build an understanding of global challenges amongst young people that crosses borders of background, culture and nationality. Using both the knowledge, experiences and the relationships they form through LIMUN, it is hoped that that the next generation of world leaders and thinkers will be able to work effectively to find solutions to future global problems that are compatible with the aims and principles of the United Nations and promote the spirit of cooperation.
Taking on the role of an Ambassador to the UN, participants experience the complexities of international policy formation at first hand. Each delegate represents the viewpoint of a single Member State of the United Nations or non-governmental Organisation (NGO), researching that country's or NGO's policy and advocating these views to other delegates.
In this way, participants have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with state policy, ideas and cultures different to their own and put themselves in the shoes of a real diplomat.
During an MUN conference a whole spectrum of issues can be dealt with; from issues of Security, to Development or Human Rights.
MUN encourages the development of skills essential to all fields of study and employment, such as: strong leadership, initiative and expertise in public speaking; negotiation, mediation and consensus building; and the ability to form relationships rapidly with people of alternative backgrounds and viewpoints.
Reimagining Global Governance
This year's theme will be Reimagining Global Governance. As LIMUN commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first UN General Assembly, and a century since the inaugural Model League of Nations, the world is positioned at a crossroads. The global governance landscape is increasingly polarised between those who seek multilateral cooperation and those who pursue nationalist or even isolationist policies. Moreover, as we seek to build back better for a brighter future, even multilateral cooperation often neglects other agents of change, including business, charities, and civil society. To tackle our contemporary challenges, we must rethink our global institutions, our policies, and our actions. As we move forward and reimagine global governance, it is important that we do so through the spirit of global cooperation - working across borders, across societal demographics, and across geopolitical divisions.
LIMUN has decided to shape this year's committees around five key global governance challenges. For information on the clusters of committees, please see here. On your application form, you will have the chance to make suggestions on the topics and committees that you want to discuss. By rethinking the applications process, LIMUN thereby hopes to better tailor MUN delegate allocations to match your interests and your passions. Moreover, LIMUN is limiting committees to 20-30 people maximum, with most committees having a delegate to chair ratio of 10:1 or less. LIMUN hopes that this will allow the conference to maintain, and even improve, LIMUN’s outstanding reputation for academic quality and delegate participation in spite of the virtual setting.
