Gianmaria Sannino has a background in physical oceanography and marine science. His main activities are related to ocean and climate modelling. He was involved as PI, WP leader, and Task leader in many European and National projects on climate change, oceanography, and ocean energy. He is member of EuroGOOS, and in the scientific committee of ECRA (European Climate Research Alliance), EERA- JP Ocean (European Energy Research Alliance, Joint Program on Ocean Energy), and Med-CORDEX (the Mediterranean CORDEX initiative promoted by the World Climate Research Programme)
